A Burbank middle school teacher remains in jail today, after her arraignment was postponed until March 25th. Amy Beck, a 33-year-old teacher at David Starr Jordan Middle School, is charged with four counts of unlawful sex with a person under 16 years old and one count of oral copulation with a person under 16 years old.
Beck, who surrendered at the police station on Monday afternoon, is accused of having sex with a male student over a six-month period between March and September last year.
“She said she had sexual relations with one of her students,” said Police Sergeant Robert Quesada. The police also said they interviewed the boy “and confirmed that the acts did occur.”
Beck’s attorney, Michael Williamson, said one reason the teacher plans to remain in jail instead of posting $175,000 bail, is she wants to avoid the media. Beck faces up to seven years in state prison if she is convicted.
