Baseball Is Finally Here

It's opening day. That means baseball season's officially in full swing.

The MLB’s been in session the past month, but it’s only been preseason games.  Win or lose, the games don’t count toward the team’s overall record.  That all changes today.  Opening day marks the official start of baseball.  Everyone was in action today, including both L.A teams.

The Dodgers were in Pittsburgh today.  The Pirates had something to prove.  The team has had a losing record for 17 consecutive seasons.  Pittsburgh started out on the right foot today, beating the Blue Crew 11-5.  The Pirates came out of the gates swinging.  Garrett Jones hit a home run in his first two at-bats and pinch-hitter Ryan Church drove in three runs on two separate doubles.  Today’s win is the Pirates’ fourth consecutive opening day victory.  Vincente Padilla was the Dodgers starting pitcher and gave up seven runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings.  The two teams play again this Wednesday at 7:05 EST.

Down in Anaheim, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are set to play Minnesota at 7:05pm.  Jared Weaver is set to start on the mound for the Halos.  The Angels want to win another championship.  During the off-season, the team made some trades to get veterans like Hideki Matsui in hopes that they will help the Angels win another title.
