Arizona Law Protest

Protesters fear the Arizona law will set a bad precedent for California.

More than 70 University of Southern California students protested the new Arizona immigration law Thursday afternoon.

The protest, organized by MECHa (the student Chicano movement based out of USC), had some students carrying posters that said, “Being brown is not a crime.” Others wore signs over their heads that asked, “What looks like an illegal immigrant?”

The Arizona law makes it a state crime to be an illegal immigrant, and grants the police broad powers to stop anyone they believe, with “reasonable suspicion,” to be undocumented.

Greg Hoover, a USC senior, shares why he thinks the protest inhibited intellectual discussion.
